The Goodness of God in a Simple Harvest

This month has reminded me that the goodness of God isn't always measured by overflowing barns and bumper crops. Sometimes, His blessings come in quieter ways.

After a long season of drought, the Lord has now blessed us with abundant rain. The garden has responded with fresh life, the pastures are green keeping our herd happy and full, and while I harvested cucumbers of my own to make pickles, there wasn't an overflowing harvest of everything.

Yet God provided in another way.

A friend had squash in abundance and generously shared. So, for the first time, I tried something new and made bread and butter pickled zucchini alongside my cucumber pickles and made squash fritters with the loads of yellow squash! What a sweet reminder that God often provides through the hands and kindness of others.

Harvest doesn't always mean excess.

Sometimes it's simply enough.

Enough rain after dry days.

Enough vegetables for the table.

Enough for a fresh salad daily.

Enough to preserve for tomorrow.

Enough strength for today's work.

Enough grace for the season we're in.

God's provision doesn't always arrive in abundance from our own fields. Sometimes it comes through a neighbor's generosity, a friend's overflowing garden, or an unexpected opportunity to try something new.

As I filled jars and listened to the rain outside, I couldn't help but smile and think about Psalm 107:

"Give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men." — Psalm 107:8

This season, I'm thankful not just for what grew in my garden, but for what God provided through others.

Because His goodness isn't measured by how much we have.

It's measured by His faithfulness.

And this summer, He has been so very faithful.
